What the next Nigerian government needs to focus on

Many years ago, a dispute broke out between two very high-ranking officials in President Obasanjo’s government. These two men were not ministers then, but they significantly influenced government policy design and implementation. On the face of it, this dispute seemed about the policies in question themselves—one official was essentially blocking and reversing the policies of the other one—and I never took it at anything more than face value.

Years later, after President Obasanjo had left office, he wrote his customary book to put his version of events in the historical records. Almost as a throwaway line, he mentioned that the dispute between the two officials had been over a woman. It took me a while to pick my jaw off the floor, but seeing the dispute in this new light
