Microinsurance: The ambitious model to provide healthcare for all Nigerians

Five friends rowed together on the boat to a wooden house in the centre of Makoko, Lagos. They had just lost their friend, Fatima to malaria because her parents could not afford to pay ₦1,000 for her medication. 

Fatima’s family is like one of the over 80 million Nigerians who live on less than ₦7,000 monthly, out of which they eat, transport themselves to work, pay their rent and pay for healthcare if needed. 

With such low income, it's no wonder that Nigeria’s equity of access to healthcare is 2.8 out of 10 - the fifth-lowest in the world.
