Democracy in Chad
Chad's incumbent military leader who rose to power in a coup, Mahamat Deby, was elected president. The opposition candidate protested the results but his complaints were rejected. MPS won two-thirds of the legislative election, although the opposition boycotted it, and the turnout was 51%.
